Welcome to the second edition of Saints of the Week! Today, I have 7 Saints for you to share with your students and children. Their Feast Days fall during the week of September 7th – 13th. Each Saint will have the:
- dates of birth and death (when available)
- patronage
- Link to their resource or story page
- associated virtues
I tried to choose Saints from different countries, time periods, and with various vocations. Feel free to swap out other favorite Saints this week if you wish! This is just a guide that follows the Liturgical Year Feast Days. Please let me know if you would like any other resources for these guides, and I will try my best to add them for you. I kept these guides very open-ended so that you can tailor them to your students.

9/7: Saint Regina (Died c. 286)
Feast Day: September 7
Patronage: Poor people, shepherdesses, torture victims
Quick Facts:
- Convert to Christianity
- Family disowned her because of her faith
- Lived as a poor shepherdess
- Martyr
Virtues: Faith
9/8: Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Feast)
Feast Day: September 8
Quick facts:
- Falls 9 months after the Immaculate Conception on December 8th
- This Feast was documented in the 6th century by St. Romanus
9/9: St. Peter Claver (c. 1581-1654)
Feast Day: September 9
Patronage: African missions, African-Americans, against slavery
Quick facts:
- Son of a farmer
- Became a Jesuit at 20 years old
- Ministered to slaves and worked for improved conditions for plantation workers
Virtue: Charity
9/10: St. Nicholas of Tolentino (1245-1305)

Feast Day: September 10
Patronage: Animals, babies, boatmen, dying people, sick animals, souls in Purgatory
Quick facts:
- Named after the original St. Nicholas of Bari
- Augustinian friar, and ordained at 25 years old
- Received visions of angels
- Preacher, peacemaker, healer, and wonder-worker
- Devotion to praying for the souls in Purgatory
Virtues: Charity, humility, obedience
9/11: Blessed Joan Roig i Diggle (1917-1936)
Feast Day: September 11
Patronage: Children, youths, and workers
Quick facts:
- Born to a poor family
- Worked as a store clerk
- Spent hours in Eucharistic Adoration
- Protected the Blessed Sacrament during the Spanish Civil War by consuming Hosts to prevent desecration
- Martyr
Virtue: Love for God
9/12: Feast of the Holy Name of Mary
Feast Day: September 12
Quick facts:
- First observed in Spain in 1513
- Extended to the Universal Church in 1683 by Pope Innocent XI
9/13: St. John Chrysostom (c. 347-407)
Feast Day: September 13
Patronage: Orators, lecturers, preachers, speakers, against epilepsy
Quick facts:
- Monk, preacher, and priest
- Developed a stomach ailment
- His name, “Chrysostom,” means “golden mouth”
- He was given the name “Chrysostom” for his clear and thorough sermons
- Bishop of Constantinople
Virtues: Justice, charity
