Welcome to the first edition of Saints of the Week! Today, I have 7 Saints for you to share with your students and children. Their Feast Days fall during the week of August 31 – September 6th. Each Saint will have the:
- dates of birth and death (when available)
- patronage
- Link to their resource or story page
- associated virtues
I tried to choose Saints from different countries, time periods, and with various vocations. Feel free to swap out other favorite Saints this week if you wish! This is just a guide that follows the Liturgical Year Feast Days. Please let me know if you would like any other resources for these guides, and I will try my best to add them for you. I kept these guides very open-ended so that you can tailor them to your students.

8/31: Saint Raymond Nonnatus (1204-1240)
Feast Day: August 31
Patronage: Against fever, babies, childbirth, OBGYNs, expectant mothers, midwives
Quick Facts:
- Born to a wealthy and noble family in Spain
- He wanted to pursue religious life, but his father forced him to work the family farm
- He finally did become a priest as part of the Mercedarian Order
- He was born via C-section and his mother died in child birth
Virtues: Piety, Obedience
9/1: Bl. Giuliana of Collalto (1186-1262)
Feast Day: September 1
Patronage: Headache, migraines, migraine sufferers
Quick facts:
- Born to a noble family in Italy
- Became a Benedictine nun
- Loved serving the poor, performed miracles, and suffered from sever headaches
Virtue: Charity
9/2: St. Agricola of Avignon (c. 625-c.700)
Feast Day: September 2
Patronage: Against misfortune, against plague epidemics, for rain, for good weather, storks
Quick facts:
- He was a Bishop and renowned preacher
- Defended the poor and the sick
- He is usually seen pictured with a stork because his prayers ended an invasion of this pesky bird!
Virtue: Charity
9/3: Pope Saint Gregory the Great (540-604)

Feast Day: September 3
Patronage: Gout, plague, choir boys, musicians, popes, schoolchildren, singers, masons, students, teachers
Quick facts:
- Comes from a long line of Saints
- His great-grandfather was also a pope
- Known for Gregorian Chant
- Doctor of the Church
Virtues: Humility, generosity, prudence
9/4: St. Ida of Herzfeld (Died c. 813)
Feast Day: September 4
Patronage: Brides, widows
Quick facts:
- Great-granddaughter of Charlemagne
- She was widowed young and her son became a monk
- Spent her life feeding the poor
Virtue: Charity
9/5: St. Teresa of Calcutta (1910-1997)
Feast Day: September 5
Quick facts:
- Born in Albania with the name Agnes
- Founded the Congregation of the Missionaries of Charity
- Worked with lepers in disaster areas of India
- Awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979
Patronage: Calcutta, India, Missionaries of Charity
Virtues: Charity, Humility, Kindness
9/6: Bl. Olinto Marella (1882-1969)
Feast Day: September 6
Patronage: No official patronage, but he was known for preaching in the streets and teaching
Quick facts:
- Born to a wealthy physician
- He taught in seminaries, and also taught children in his parish
- Was a parish priest
- Would preach and teach the faith on the sidewalk to passersby
