I must admit the truth…I have been feeling spiritually dry lately. Oh, I can talk the talk, teach the talk, and write the talk (in the this case the talk is the teachings of the Church and the Gospel of a Jesus Christ), but inside I have felt tired and sad.
I take heart in the examples of Mother Theresa and St. John of the Cross who experienced times like this as well, however, I honestly want to ‘feel’ better!
My nature is that of a happy person. Our kids joke that I am the optimist to their dad’s pessimist. That makes times like this particularly difficult for me to manage.
Sometimes to help, I flip through Sacred Scripture. Hmmm, faith as small as a mustard seed can move mountains. I thought, wait, don’t I have at least that much faith? Then a random thought occurred (Holy Spirit?), maybe you need a lot more faith to trust that God doesn’t want the mountain to move? Maybe moving things is the easier route, but climbing over the mountains God places in your path takes faith as big as, well, the mountain.
So I hope that The Lord in His mercy will teach me how to have that kind of faith. The faith to keep climbing this mountain (although I don’t want to) until He takes me to the other side. God bless.
